Biography
Born in Cheshire in 1948. Rod started painting in oils when he was thirteen and notwithstanding a career in banking, he has never stopped. Painting has therefore been an enthusiastic hobby over the years . Since retiring in 2012 he has devoted himself full time to pursuing his passion.
Rod is self taught, living in Hythe, Kent. He paints mostly outdoors in front of the subject (plein air) and finishes his paintings in one session. His work is impressionistic and he aims to capture atmosphere, light and movement in a spontaneous way.
The subjects from which he takes inspiration are landscapes, marine scenes and townscapes. He also loves painting the `thames in London and travelling overseas.
